Many people tend to think that only a person who has talents or a person who has a good education will become successful in life. On the contrary, research has shown that a person`s success depends largely on his attitude, enthusiasm and commitment. Each of us are born with a different type of talent. However, many people do not succeedin life because they do not have a positive attitude.

Life is full of challenges. Only a person with a positive attitude can cope with these challeges and moves forward in life. We all have problems in life. It is now we react to them that makes the difference. Some of us tend to make mountains out of molehills. We overreact and thus feel miserable when we think about our problems. If only we have the right attitude and look for solutions to problems and view challenges as opportunities to gain experiences, our problems and challenges will seem small. We will then realize that ‘every cloud has a silver lining’. Only when we learn to handle our problems and concentrate on the problem at hand can we be successful.

A successful person is a person who sets goals and then commits himself to achieve these goals. We should set goals for our education, career, financial standing and family. Once we have set these goals, we must take the appopriate action to achive these goals, we must take the appropriate action to achieve these goals. For example, a student who wants to score 10As in his SPM must be willing to be diligent and put in the effort to study a few hours a day. Goals are the road map to the lives we wish to live. Once we have set them and worked on them, we can accomplish many things.

Another quality that draws the line between successful and unsuccessful people is perseverance. They do not give up easily. The lives of great men show us how every one of them had, at one point in their lives, failed to achieve their goals. However, their persistent attitudes have resulted in work that has benefited mankind. Thomas Edison, the great scientist, tried out many experiments and failed. It is because he remained undaunted and because of his perseverance, that he is credited with over 1000 inventions. If Thomas Edison had given up after a few unsuccessful attempts, we would have neither heard about him nor benefits from his inventions.

A person who wants to be uccessful should have no time for selfpity. He should be future-oriented and lock beyond the challenges and adversities that he faces. A self-confident person will realize that problems and challenges are hurdles that must be overcome in order to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

Having a budget is not a choice but a necessity. It is important for everyone to have a budget in order to balance the amount of income with expenditure. Having a budget can help us plan our finances. With a financial plan, we will know where the money we have goes to.

It is essential for us to be able to take control over our money and not have our money control us. Therefore, we must be able to decide how we should spend and save our money no matter how much or how little we have. This way, we are in control of our finances. Being able to control our finances means that we must also be smart to decide between the things we need to buy and the things that we don’t.

It is never too early to start having a budget. So, it is important for us start planning our funds now, as it is a good practice for the future when we start working. As a working adult, one will have various money commitment such as a car, house, family, and others. Therefore, budgeting is vey important. If we do not have a budget, we may spend more than what we have. This will cause us to go into debt. Futhermore, we may also not have any savings for times of emergency if we fail to have a financial plan.

One of the methods of budgeting is to set a spending limit. By having a spending limit, we will be able to control our expenditure. A spending limit will help us to decide what we need and what we do not need to buy. Besides that, knowing the amount of money we have in hand will also give us an idea of how much we can afford to spend and how much we would want to put away as savings. With a budget, we will also be able to track our expenses. We can list down all our expenses such as food, stationery, car repair, movie tickets and others so that we will know what our money is spent on.

Having a smart spending habit is another way of budgeting. Being smart means that we should only spend what is within our budget and avoid extravagance. We must also avoid having the tendency to follow crowd instinct or to be easily influenced by sales.

So where should we start? It is best to first determine our necessities. We should only spend on things that we need and not on luxury items. As working adults, credits cards are norm as they provide invaluable convenience provided that we use them carefully and trim spending on extravagance. To shop smart, we can list down the item that we need to buy before we start shopping, avoid sales and set a limit for ourselves for each shopping trip.

How to Win Friends and Influence People

Dale Carnegie wrote one of the first ever self-help books called How to Win Friends and Influence People in 1937. In the book he explains how to handle people, make them like you, and how to influence them. He stresses the importance of not criticizing or complaining, but giving honest opinions. He says to make friends, you need to smile, remember their name, and be sincerely interested in them. You also need to be a good listener, get them to talk about themselves, and then continue the conversation about things that interest them. These things make the other person feel important and that can be the beginning of a friendship.
Dale Carnegie had many words that describe a good friendship and advice on making friends. He also shows the importance of a positive attitude, and that can help you make friends. Here is a sampling of his wisdom.
  • The royal road to a man's heart is to talk to him about the things he treasures most.
  • When dealing with people, remember you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion.
  • Do things for others and you'll find your self-consciousness evaporating like morning dew.
  • You can make more friends in two months by becoming more interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get people interested in you.
  • When fate hands you a lemon, make lemonade.

Some Beautiful Words About Friendship
